Parakeet named Spoodles named world's oldest at 32

A South Carolina family's pet parakeet, Spoodles, was officially named the oldest in the world at the age of 32 years and 86 days old.

Guinness World Records confirmed Charleston resident Amanda Beth's bird is the oldest living parakeet.

"I always joke that he keeps not dying, so I keep feeding him," Beth said.

Beth said Spoodles was 3 years old when her mother gifted him to her in 1997.

She said the parakeet isn't as talkative as he used to be, but still greets each morning with a "pretty bird."

Domino's manager dubbed 'World's Fastest Pizza Maker'

The manager of a Domino's pizzeria in Virginia earned the title of the "World's Fastest Pizza Maker" when he assembled three large pies in 31.22 seconds.

Manassas resident Richard Delcid claimed the top spot at the Domino's World Fastest Pizza Making Competition in Las Vegas, earning $5,000 in prize money, a trophy and a championship belt.

The finalists at the May 13 competition were required to make three large pizzas: one pepperoni, one mushroom and one cheese. Delcid's pizzas passed an inspection examining how well he hand-stretched the dough, spread the sauce and distributed the toppings, earning him the title with a time of 31.22 seconds.

Lemur escapes Netherlands zoo, crosses several roads

A red ruffed lemur escaped from an Amsterdam zoo and crossed several roads and tram tracks before take shelter in a tree.

The lemur escaped Friday afternoon from the Artis Zoo and was spotted about an hour and a half later in a tree along a road a few blocks away.

Officials said the lemur would have had to cross several streets, including one with tram tracks. The animal was reportedly almost struck by a taxi.

"That must have been incredibly stressful," zoo official Maartje de Vries told Het Parool.

The lemur was on a branch about 20 feet over the ground. Officials made the decision to dart the animal with a tranquilizer before attempting to bring it down.

Colorado man opens truck door, finds bear in the passenger seat

A home security camera in Colorado captured the moment a man opened the door of his pickup truck and came face to face with a bear in the passenger seat.

Justin Pickar's Nest camera at his Steamboat Springs home captured video of Andy Kerrigan's bear encounter in front of the house.

The video shows Kerrigan open the passenger door of his truck, revealing a bear inside the vehicle.

Kerrigan, who said the bear apparently climbed in through an open window, ran around to the front of the truck, but the bear did not exit through the open door, instead choosing to continue rooting around inside in an apparent search for food.

The man ended up retrieving a wooden plank and using it to intimidate the bear into vacating the vehicle.

10 people run half-marathon in caterpillar costume, chase world record

A British running club's 10 members donned a caterpillar costume together to attempt a Guinness World Record at a half-marathon.

The Tutbury Running Club took on the Ramathon half-marathon in Derby on Sunday while wearing a 60-foot caterpillar costume made from sections of children's play tunnels.

Running club member Craig Robson said the members were unable to practice together before the race.

"It was an absolute logistical nightmare but with grit and determination we did it," he told the BBC.

The team finished with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 51 seconds. They have applied to Guinness World Records for the title of fastest half-marathon in a 10-person costume, a category not currently listed on the record-keeping organization's website.

Large amount of mystery apples wash up on N.C. beach

An organization dedicated to protecting wild horses in North Carolina said several apples found on a beach had apparently fallen from a cargo ship.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund said officials received a call Tuesday reporting the local beach in Corolla was littered with loose apples.

"Our employee started heading towards the area where the apples were reported and quickly realized someone didn't dump them out there on purpose — they seemed to be washing up out of the ocean! They must have come off a ship out at sea," the organization said on social media.

The incident recalled another event from a few years ago, when Doritos chips washed up on the beach.

Employees and volunteers collected several bags of apples. A pair of men who regularly clear garbage from the beach later found many more apples, as well as some oranges.

British gardener breaks record with 3-pound, 13.7-ounce garlic bulb

A British competitive gardener's summer crop earned him two world records, including one for a head of garlic weighing more than 3 pounds.

Gloucestershire grower Graham Barratt took his vegetables to Wargrave Nursery Plant Center in Berkshire, England, to be assessed on June 25.

His bulb of elephant garlic, a larger variety than a typical bulb purchased from a grocery store, tipped the scales at 3 pounds and 13.7 ounces. It was measured with a diameter of 7.5 inches.

The pungent plant earned him the Guinness World Record for the heaviest elephant garlic.

Barratt earned a second record on the same day, when his .98-ounce Swedish heirloom snow pea was declared the world's heaviest.

The gardener previously set four world records with his 2025 harvest, including the heaviest luffa — 6 pounds, 3.5 ounces — and the longest pea pod — 7 inches.

Italian students construct world's largest paper airplane

A group of students from Italy's University of Pisa constructed a paper plane with a wingspan of 65.75 feet and flew it a distance of 193.5 feet to break a Guinness World Record.

The students, who dubbed their group Project Icarus, hand-constructed the airplane exclusively from paper and glue with help from engineering education influencer Jakidale.

The finished plane had a wingspan of 65.75 feet and measured 23 feet long.

The students successfully launched the plane for a 193.5-foot flight at the We Make Future fair at the BolognaFiere event venue in Bologna, earning the Guinness World Record for the world's largest paper aircraft.

The previous record was set by Germany's Braunschweig Institute of Technology in 2013.

Man named world's oldest water skier just before 95th birthday

A New Zealand great-grandfather was officially named the world's oldest water skier just a month and a half shy of his 95th birthday.

Bryan Murray was 94 years and 318 days old when he went water skiing on Auckland's Lake Kereta in April, earning him the Guinness World Records title for the oldest water skier (male).

Murray started water skiing in 1955 and participated in numerous competitions.

"I didn't consider it initially but as I got older it became a challenge and I enjoyed it so much I just kept going. Also the family all participated in the sport which took us all over New Zealand for tournaments," he said. "Most people tell me that I am an inspiration to people of all ages. It encourages me to know that I am leading the way for others to keep active."

Murray said he has no intention of stopping his favorite activity anytime soon, and plans to extend his record during the summer.

'Best couple in the world' break world record for fast kissing

A Brazilian couple turned their love into a Guinness World Records title by kissing 195 times in 30 seconds.

Renato Bayma Gaia, 32, kissed the face of his girlfriend, Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins, 33, 195 times to break the record for the most kisses in 30 seconds by a pair.

Gaia said the record proves he and de Marins are the "best couple in the world."

He previously earned the solo Guinness World Records for the fastest time to set up and topple 10 books, 6.68 seconds, and the largest foot rotation (male), 210.66 degrees.

The couple said they are next planning to take on the record for most kisses in one minute by a pair together. That title is currently held by Japanese couple Cherry Yoshitake and Kumiko Shiratori, with a total 277 kisses.
