Moose naps outside Montana radio station 'The Moose' April 22 (UPI) — A Montana moose went for a self-guided tour of Bozeman and even took a nap in front of a radio station called The Moose. Alivia Ballenger, a student at Montana State University, glanced outside her apartment Monday morning and saw a moose running across the neighboring vacant lot. She sent video of the creature to her father, Travis Ballenger, who posted it to his House of Montana Realty business page on Facebook. "I have the land listing for the property where the moose crossed," Travis Ballenger told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. "My daughter woke up and there's this great big moose. It just ran right by my sign." He said he hopes the visit raises interest in the property. "It's a great lot," he said. "I think the moose thought so, too." The moose was spotted all around Bozeman on Monday, and even settled down for a nap next to The Moose 94.7 radio station. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Information Officer Morgan Jacobsen said the moose, which appeared to be an adult, was reported to officials, but they decided not to take any action. "Yesterday was the first time we had received reports that this moose was in the area," Jacobsen said. "We didn't get reports that it was causing conflicts or obstructing traffic." Jacobsen said moose visits in Bozeman are unusual, but not unheard of. "We have sightings of various wildlife species in the city limits of Bozeman quite frequently," Jacobsen said. "While a moose sighting is not an everyday thing, oftentimes they're passing through and just happen to wander into town." |

'Unicycle Granny' still performing at the age of 69 A California performer known as the "Unicycle Granny" was named the oldest unicycle rider in the world at the age of 69 years and 189 days old. Linda Jarrett, who started riding her unicycle at the age of 10, first earned the record in January 2023, at the age of 66 years and 234 days old, and has now extended her record with a December 2025 performance in a production of The Nutcracker. Jarrett performed in Florida State University's flying circus while she was enrolled as a student, leading to a circus career and eventually jobs as a Hollywood stunt performer. She still performs on her unicycle, as well as other acrobatic skills, in regional and community theater productions. "Advice I might have for people that want to unicycle is this... start very young and never stop," she told Guinness World Records. |

Oregon woman sues Trader Joe’s after allegedly finding fingertip in bottle of orange juice PORTLAND, Ore. (TCN) — A woman suing grocery chain Trader Joe’s for $10,000 has alleged she found a human fingertip in a bottle of orange juice she bought from the retailer last summer. On June 14, 2025, Julee O’Neil purchased a 52-ounce bottle of orange juice. When she finished it a few days later, she encountered what she thought could be a finger, according to KPTV. Based on court documents obtained by WPIX, she first thought there was a piece of pulp in her mouth but soon found it was a glove tip that might have had a human fingertip inside. The woman then reportedly went to urgent care after experiencing burning in her mouth. KPTV reports she also experienced nausea and was concerned she might have accidentally swallowed the fingertip. Thirty days before filing the complaint, O’Neil wrote to Trader Joe’s and requested $10,000 as a settlement. In her lawsuit, O’Neil reports that the chain did not pay it; she filed a suit on April 20 for $10,000 in damages from the juice. Court records obtained by KGW show that O’Neil has filed several suits over the years. In two of them, she settled with drivers she was in crashes with. In both cases, the other drivers were allegedly responsible for the accidents. O’Neil also reportedly sued Starbucks in 2020 after claiming she slipped on a puddle at one of their stores and hurt her knee, and sued a massage provider in 2024 after claiming her neck was stepped on, according to KGW. |

China woman, 89, climbs from 27th to 21st floor to escape locked bedroom goes viral A brave 89-year-old grandmother climbed from the 27th to the 21st floor on her building’s outer wall after accidentally locking herself in, shocking many people online. The woman in Beijing was spotted stuck outside a residential building’s 26th floor on an afternoon on April 1. A cleaner and a security guard heard her faint sounds from downstairs, looked up and saw her grabbing tightly to the rails that protect air conditioners on the outer wall. The 89-year-old, above, can be seen gripping on to the bars of an air-conditioning unit cage as she makes her way down the building. Photo: Sina They immediately called the police and shouted to her to stay put and wait to be rescued. She continued climbing down when the firefighters were on their way. The exhausted woman eventually stopped at 21st floor, which was about 50 metres above the ground. The firefighters had to rescue her from inside the building as it was not safe for them to also get onto the rails. They first attached a safety rope to her then they cut part of the rails, so that she could sit on the platform of an air conditioner and rest. A dramatic longer-distance photograph shows just how much of a risk the woman was taking. Photo: Sina They also gave her a jacket and water. They discovered that the 89-year-old lives alone on the 27th floor. She accidentally locked herself in the bedroom and left her mobile phone in the living room. The anxious woman then made the extremely dangerous decision to climb down along the air conditioner units’ rails. She said she had planned to climb all the way down to the first floor. |

'Really big pig' seen wandering loose in North Carolina Authorities in North Carolina are asking local residents to keep an eye out for a "really big pig" seen wandering loose in Durham County. The Durham County Sheriff's Office said on social media that the "new heavyweight champion" was spotted in the Mason Road area but animal services personnel were unable to locate the "ham-bassador." "To put it lightly: he is a REALLY big pig. We're talking 'absolute unit' status," the post said. "He's currently living his best life on the lam, but we'd like to get him somewhere safe before he decides to move into someone's backyard permanent-like." The sheriff's office said residents should report any sightings of the pig and not attempt to capture it themselves. The pig's owner has not yet been identified. The post asked residents to help come up with a nickname for the county's new "porcine pal." "Since he's clearly a local celebrity now, he needs a name fitting of his stature. 'Tiny' feels a bit too ironic, and 'Sir-Oinks-A-Lot' is a classic, but we know you can do better," officials wrote. |

Woman caught on camera illegally taking goose eggs, Niles police say NILES, Ill. (WLS) — Niles police are looking to identify a woman involved in a rather unusual crime. Police shared video showing a woman putting goose eggs from a nest in her pockets on Monday at about 4:18 p.m. The nest was located on the side of a building near the Golf Mill Mall. Canada geese are protected in Illinois, by the 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Without a permit, it's illegal kill them, or disturb their nests, eggs or young. Animal control believes the goose eggs were just a couple weeks away from hatching. They're hoping the community can help identify the woman caught on camera. Niles police had set up the camera to monitor a pair of adult Canada geese and their eggs that were nested there for the last couple of weeks. "Two hours later, I get footage of a woman taking the eggs instead of the adult geese coming back," Niles police Animal Control Officer Allison Cole said. "Mixed reactions, I'm shocked. A part of me is still trying to think, 'OK, maybe she's affiliated with an organization or wildlife rehabilitation that was also aware of this nest and monitoring them.'" Local wildlife organizations confirmed it was not any of their employees. "Sometimes it's just a matter of educating; some people truly don't know they're not supposed to do this. And just educating, maybe getting some fines is what's warranted," Cole said. If you ever come across any nests with eggs in them, do not touch them. And if you believe they're abandoned, then you should call the Department of Natural Resources or local wildlife organizations. |

World's longest tiramisu assembled in London A team of 100 Italian chefs gathered in London to cook and assemble a record-breaking tiramisu measuring 1,445 feet long. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on site at Chelsea Town Hall to confirm the massive dessert broke the record previously set by an 897-foot-long tiramisu made in Milan, Italy, in 2019. Mirko Ricci, who organized the London attempt, previously held the record in 2017, before it was broken in 2019. The finished dessert contained about 2.2 tons of mascarpone cheese, 50,000 ladyfinger cookies and more than 3,000 eggs. |

Amteur Breeders Grow Miniature Watermelons the Size of Chicken Eggs Watermelons have always been a tricky crop for greenhouse and vertical farming systems, primarily because of the extensive vine growth and the large size of the fruit, but one mother-daughter duo may have found a solution to this problem. Using a non-GMO chemical mutation approach, they managed to reduce the size of watermelons to that of chicken eggs, without altering their main characteristics. “In preliminary observations, the fruits retain sweet flavor, red and orange flesh types, and sufficient firmness for handling,” breeder Delaney Raptis told HortiDaily Magazine. “The objective was to minimize fruit size while maintaining the characteristics expected by consumers and supply chains.” High school researcher Delaney Raptis and her mother began their unique breeding program in 2021, with the goal of producing ultra-small fruit. After several generations, they have reduced the size of watermelons from several kilograms to approximately 80 to 200 grams, with some no larger than chicken eggs. The main goal of the breeding program was to make watermelon crops viable in high-density greenhouse systems and vertical farms, where maximizing output per square meter is a priority. The reduced fruit size also reduces food waste and is sure to be a hit with the single-portion fruit market. The two breeders noticed that the seeds of their miniature watermelons are considerably smaller than those of regular-sized fruits, but what we are most curious about is the rind. Is it edible, or does it need to be removed? |

2,082 participate in Wisconsin clean-up project, break world record A group of 2,082 volunteers participated in a clean-up project around the Milwaukee area and broke a Guinness World Record in the process. The 31st Annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup, organized by the non-profit Milwaukee Riverkeeper and cleaning products company Tru Earth, involved 2,082 volunteers cleaning up litter and other debris at more than 120 Milwaukee-area rivers and green spaces on Saturday. The event broke the Guinness World Record for the most participants in a river clean-up (multiple locations). The previous record stood at 1,795 participants "Today really belongs to the volunteers who showed up and got to work," Jennifer Bolger Breceda, executive director of Milwaukee Riverkeeper, said in a news release. "This record only happened because so many people care deeply about our rivers and each other. We're grateful to Tru Earth for working with us to set this world record, but it's our community that made this possible." |

Search for Missing Woman Hampered by Her Excessively Edited Social Media Photos A missing persons case in Mexico recently sparked a heated debate about the excessive use of filters and image editing tools online. Efforts to find a 30-year-old woman who went missing in the state of Chiapas earlier this month were hampered by the fact that the photos used by police on missing persons posters looked nothing like her. Grecia Guadalupe Orantes Mendoza went missing on the night of April 12, in the municipality of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa. Following a report filed by the young woman’s family, police activated the Alba Protocol, a mechanism that initiates immediate actions for the search for missing women. As part of the protocol, police used some of Grecia’s social media photos to create missing persons posters that they then distributed both online and among the local community. There was just one problem – according to the people who knew the 30-year-old woman, the person in the photos looked nothing like her! In these types of situations, when time is of the essence and every hour that passes makes finding the victim alive less likely, missing persons posters play a crucial role, but in this particular case, they only made it more difficult for locals to recognize the missing woman. “How were they going to find her with photos full of filters?” was one of the comments that circulated on various platforms, reflecting the impact that detail had on the perception of the case. Luckily, the woman was found alive several days later on a highway connecting Ocozocoautla with the municipality of Jiquipilas, and she remains in police custody. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and her subsequent location remain confidential while the case is being investigated. The case of Grecia Guadalupe Orantes Mendoza has sparked a debate about the use of social images for missing persons posters. Although they are the easiest source for such important visual material, experts say that the frequent use of filters hinders police instead of helping them. “The National Search Commission for Missing Persons identified some time ago that identification forms for the Alba Protocol are failing frequently when trying to locate missing persons, because they are generated using photos from social media, where users employ numerous filters and even artificial intelligence software,” security consultant David Saucedo said. |
